WEY VALLEY
Swimming Club

15 Jul 2018

The annual Wey Valley “Summer Sprints” Club Championship was held at Guildford Spectrum on Saturday, July 7th, with many exciting races and excellent swims, including no less than 226 Personal Best times, which is exactly the same number as last year!! :-)

It was great to see some of our more “senior” swimmers also participating, with strong swims from both Phil Attwood and Martin Greenbank. Well done guys, for being brave enough to “mix it” with our fast swimming kids!

In terms of individual girl’s performances, there were event wins for Imogen Freeman (PB), Martha Stanley (PB), Lily Maguire (PB), Ariana Leon Ayarza and Naila Farage-O’Reilly (PB) and 2 event wins for Scarlett Whitehead (2 PBs)

There were 3 event wins for Verity Hall (2PBs), India Steer, Poppy Robertson (2 PBs) and Natasha Gregory (PB).

Special mention goes to Lilia Moore (PB) and Sibella Colton (PB) who both won all 4 of their races. Well done to both of them on achieving the Summer Sprint “Grand Slam”! :-)

In terms of individual boy’s performances, there were event wins for Dougie White, Danny Saunders (PB), Joe Anderton, Alex Gale, and Josh Clapp (PB) & Timmy Hicks, who had a very exciting dead heat in the Under 12 boy’s breaststroke!

There were 2 wins each for Theo Shaw (2 PBs), Harry Quinn & Duane Godfrey (2 PBs) and 3 wins for Jacob Moore (3PBs), Tom Parkes, Dom Ascough (who was also second in his other race and had PBs in all four events!)

Special mention goes to Owen Angell and Liam Androne, who both won all 4 of their races and achieved 3 PBs along the way. Well done to both boys on achieving a clean sweep!

Congratulations to all of our swimmers, who, as always, gave their very best and achieved great things. It was wonderful to see so many parents encouraging and cheering the swimmers, which always means a lot to the children.

Fantastic club events such as this only take place thanks to the wonderful group of volunteers that step up and help out, so a big thanks to everyone who contributed. Special thanks to Sarah Gregory, who took the lead in organising this event this year and ensured that everything went according to plan.

We had a spectacular turnout from our volunteers, which helped everything to run smoothly and quickly. It’s rare that Saturday evenings such as this are completed by 8.30pm, so please keep up the “all hands on deck” ethos to repeat this every time!
