Round two of this years National League saw Wey Valley hosting at the Spectrum. The efficiency with which we hosted was commented on by both the West Wight team who managed to arrive 20 minutes early for their ferry back and by referee, Christina Victor who said, 'Thanks for organising such a well run gala last night. You have a great team.'
Club Captain, Chloe Edwards and team mate Sam Tuddenham did a great job at the starting end, organising and motivating the swimmers with coach, Jo Weston, losing her voice cheering and giving coaching tips and advice . A number of positive comments were received about the great WV team spirit.
As per Round 1 Reading clearly led from start to finish. The three 'Ws' (or is it four!) - Wey Valley, Worthing, West Wight - battled it out for 4th, 5th and 6th places with Wey Valley still in 6th place by one point after 40 events. There were four first places from: Natasha Gregory in the 11U 50m Breaststroke, Ailee Groom in the 13U 100m Breast and Mark Tuddenham in the 15U 100m Fly and Free and four second places from: Robbie Faulkner in the 11U 50m Fly, Luke Edwards in the 15U 100m Back and both 15U boys relays. Strong swims with safe relay take overs in the final 10 events, including great swims by our Open boys and girls coming 4th in both 6 x 50m Open Free relays, and a few Woking DQs for take overs, put Wey Valley in 4th place overall.
Three Club Records were broken on the night: Mark Tuddenham beat his own 100m Fly CR by 1.78 seconds and his 100m Freestyle CR by 1.69 seconds. Natasha Gregory also beat her own 50m Backstroke CR by 0.99 seconds.
Out of the 34 individual swims there were 18 Personal Best swims of which 9, including the CRs, were beaten by a second or more:
