2010 FINA Rules for Swimwear

From 1st January 2010 all competitions in England, Scotland and Wales will be applying the FINA rules below in relation to Swimwear for swimming (excluding Masters and Open Water) competitions.

Current FINA rules "GR 5 SWIMWEAR" state:-

  • GR 5.1 The swimwear (swimsuit, cap and goggles) of all competitors shall be in good moral taste and suitable for the individual sports disciplines and not to carry any symbol which may be considered offensive.
  • GR 5.2 All swimsuits shall be non transparent.
  • GR 5.3 The referee of a competition has the authority to exclude any competitor whose swimsuit or body symbols do not comply with this Rule.
  • BL 8.2 In swimming competitions the competitor must wear only one swimsuit in one or two pieces. No additional items, like arm bands or leg bands shall be regarded as parts of a swimsuit.
  • BL 8.3 From January 1, 2010 swimwear for men shall not extend above the navel nor below the knee, and for women, shall not cover the neck, extend past the shoulder, nor shall extend below knee. All swimsuits shall be made from textile materials. Note: This does not prevent the use of a zip (or other fastening) as this is not mentioned in these provisions.

The full statement will be posted on the British Swimming website and published in the Wavelength newsletter.

Introduction to Wey Valley

Wey Valley is a friendly, Swim 21 accredited club catering for swimmers of all standards, from complete beginners to competitive swimmers. Swimmers are placed in groups according to their ability and are encouraged to swim regularly, both for enjoyment and to keep fit. Squad swimmers are coached to attain as high a standard as possible and are encouraged to represent the club in competitive galas. Internal events including Time Trials and Club Championships, are also held throughout the year and all swimmers are encouraged to participate in these friendly events. Our annual Fun Splash and BBQ is the main social event of the year but other social activities, such as quiz nights, are also organised. Wey Valley members receive information about the club via notices on our boards at Godalming, on our web site and by emails.

It is our aim that all swimmers will develop their skills while benefiting from the facilities and enjoying the friendship offered by the club.

The club is affiliated to the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) as part of the South East Region (SER). This is one of eight regions of the ASA, the English national governing body for swimming, diving, water polo, open water, and synchronised swimming. Within the SER are various sub regional bodies, the one that WVSC falls into is the Surrey County Swimming Association (SCSA). Wey Valley Coach, Jeni Colbourne, is chairman of the SCSA.

The club is run by volunteers, covering a multitude of jobs, so any offer of help is always appreciated even if you can only spare a limited amount of time. If you feel you can offer help in any way please email the club secretary, Chris Michael.

Note: If any swimmer develops any medical condition whilst a member of the club, please inform the club immediately.
