February is here and at last it feels like we are into a routine with the swimming. Hopefully our new coaches
Joanne Weston (Comp Dev.) and Chris Beckett (Head Coach) are feeling settled now, certainly the feedback I have
received from swimmers and parents alike has all been positive. Welcome also to Steph Harvey who joined the
coaching team in the autumn and has not been properly announced in the newsletter yet.
Below is a catch up on some of the things that have been happening since I last wrote to you all.
A big welcome to
All those families who have joined us since the start of the year, you are all most welcome. We hope that you
enjoy your time with Wey Valley, if you have any questions then just ask the person next to you, we are a very
approachable bunch! If you want to put a name to a face then this page will
probably be useful to you.
Saturday swimmers mini gala
Just before the Christmas break we had a mini gala for the Saturday swimmers that did not take part in the club champs. It was a fantastic event, carried out in just the right spirit. For those of you that would like to check your times you will find them here.
Times/Badges
Lots of the swimmers collected new personal bests and new times in the run up to Christmas. If they have achieved a
bronze, silver, gold or platinum time then why not reward it with a badge to go on their t-bag or towel? If
you're not sure what they have achieved, check out this page.
New swimsuit rules
As of the start of this year the swimming world has strict new swimsuit rules which can be found on our
homepage. Take a moment to have a look because even at the recent schools gala swimmers
were being asked to go and change out of illegal. swimwear.
Dates for your diary
We have the schedule for the year worked out all the way through to Christmas! So if you are regular gala swimmer
please reserve the dates in your diary now, and the whole club should be looking forward to club champs already!
Dates can be found here.
Invoices
We should all have paid our invoices for the new term by now. If you are reading this thinking "what invoice?", then please email
Mark Edwards and ask for a copy to be sent to you.
Congratulations to
our newly qualified officials: Tony Davenport and Karen Tuddenham (Judge 2/Starter), Paula Bell and Sharon Gourlay (Judge2) and Angela Porter
(Judge1). Also Tom Cawthorn and Carrie Hughes who have passed their Level 2 Teaching qualification.
We made excellent progress last year in getting parents through the officials course, but we need to keep this
momentum up. Please contact
Paula Bell if you would be prepared to help with timekeeping or fancy learning more about becoming an official. It is only
by working together that we can put on events like the Summer Sprints, inter-club galas and the Club Champs.
Tom's drag pants!
Tom Cawthorn bought his sister some drag pants for Christmas but they were the wrong size and he forgot to take
them back, so now he needs to sell them! They are medium, blue and purple reversible, in shop condition with label
still attached and he is selling them for £10.
And finally
