From the Poolside - May 22

Competitive Development Squad this Saturday

No swimming for you this Saturday, this is the only dedicated Comp Dev session that is effected over half term. It is swimming as usual for everyone else apart from Bank Holiday Monday, as we do not swim on a Bank Holiday.

The Big Wey Valley 30th Birthday Splash

Guildford Lido a week Saturday 7pm

Tickets sales have passed the 160 mark which is fantastic, especially for half term. If you haven't yet got your ticket then please email me and I will make sure that you are sorted out. I am delighted that the weather is starting to improve, I do think though that we will make it a 'bring a gazebo' party, just in case!

Jon and I are organising various relays, water polo games etc. If you want to take part make sure you remember your swimwear!

The schools gala - 9th May

Once again Wey Valley hosted the Guildford primary schools swimming gala. St Josephs, Queen Eleanors, Boxgrove, Holy Trinity and St Thomas took part in front of a packed Godalming Pool. For many this is their favourite gala of the year and quite right too. The atmosphere is wonderful, for many parents and swimmers it is their first introduction to competitive swimming and for many club swimmers it gives them the chance to be the star for their team rather than one of many at a normal club gala.

This year the battle between Boxgrove and Holy Trinity was as close as it has ever been. Holy Trinity won most of the year group prizes but thanks for HT being disqualified in 3 races and Boxgrove having no disqualifications at all, Boxgrove won by 111 points to Holy Trinity's 104 points. St Thomas beat Queen Eleanors to third place by the same margin of 7 points and St Joes brought up the rear.

Thanks go to Caroline Mackie and Debs Wanstall for all of their hard work yet again in making the gala happen.

Premier League

We swam in the second and final round of the Premier League last Saturday, we were in third place after the first round but some very strong swims from Sutton and Cheam and the Basingstoke Bluefins dominated the night. When all was said and done only 7 points separated 4th, 5th and 6th places but Farnham and Locksheath beat us into 6th place. There were individual wins for Shona Davenport, Robbie Faulkner Luke Edwards and Tom Kearsey, all putting in PBs.

There was a club record in the U14 50m backstroke for Tom Kearsey 35.24 (previous record Luke Edwards 35.94 Mar 09). Tom is the third swimmer to break this record this year, with Luke and Mark T also having held it.

Thank you to Sharon and Karen for the information.

Can we borrow a projector please?

There is a lot of information that needs to be relayed at the AGM this year. Does anyone have a projector and screen that they won't mind bringing along to the AGM to be used with a laptop?

Congratulations to

Jon Brayne who is now officially our Head Coach.

Maggie Davenport who is our new Welfare Officer.

Debs Wanstall who is enjoying a well earned retirement from committee duties.

Pools in Schools

Interesting article here about Steve Parry's mobile pool

Free Swimming in Woking - cheap way to keep them entertained over the holidays

If you print off page four of this form http://www.woking.gov.uk/leisure/thekey2/keycardappformpdf.pdf and take it with your child's passport to the pool at Woking then you can register in about 30 seconds at the till for free swimming in Woking. It really is that simple and applies to all three pools at pool in the park.

A friend had her daughters party there and registered all of the children in the party and got them all in for free

And Finally....

If this doesn't make your stomach feel funny then your made of sterner stuff than me
