The following article appeared in the 24th October 2003 edition of the Surrey Advertiser following Wey Valley's success in the 2003 Junior Cup
Wey Valley climaxed a brilliant season on another high - to the delight of chief coach Chris Beckett. After third place in the final Junior Cup gala on Saturday had clinched the club's place in Division Four next season, he commented: "It was just superb. We deliberately set out to develop the club step by step, so to find ourselves moving up the ranks in all three of the leagues in which we compete, in a single year, is beyond expectation."
Wey Valley had launched the season in Division Five, but after a solid first round back in September, the club entered the last round at Bracknell seeded sixth in the fourth. They finished ahead of Epsom, Woking B and Bognor Regis to cement their place. Among their top swimmers were U12 Allegra Dowding and Richard Keeble, who won the U13 freestyle.
Club chairman Jeni Colborne insisted: "It's going to be celebrations all round at our club awards night on December 6 when we tot up all the club records that have fallen this year."
