Swim 21is the ASA's Club Development Programme aimed at 'providing appropriate opportunities
for swimmers, to enable them to attain their full potential'. Swim 21 is all about the needs of swimmers. The programme
is structured around four levels: Teaching, Skill Development, Competitive and Performance. Each level contains criteria that
a Club is required to meet in order to be accredited.
Since 2003 Wey Valley Swimming Club has been a fully accredited ASA Swim 21 club, at the Teaching and the Skill Development
level. In 2003 and again in 2007, WVSC completed and submitted an extensive audit to ASA. The audit covered specific
areas including swimmer's development, teacher/coach education, club management and partnerships.
Each year between audits, Swim 21 required its clubs to deliver an action plan outlining milestones reached and improvements
to be made. This annual action plan amounts to a Re-Accreditation of Swim 21, which is required to remain a Swim 21 club.
In October 2009, the club is again submitting a "re-accreditation" plan to the ASA.
Our involvement in Swim 21 means we gain help from the Sport England Active Sports programme funded by the Lottery
Sports Fund. One of Active Sport's main aims is the identification of ability and potential in young people and, by
providing the opportunities as well as by granting aid to Local Authorities they help to develop sound sports programmes for
our children.
