Recruitment Policy statement

  • The club is committed to developing its own human resources for the benefit of the club, its members and the wider community. Job descriptions for all positions in the club are freely available to all through this website and via committee members
  • All club members are encouraged to learn about the sport and to contribute their own knowledge, skills and time to help run and develop the club
  • When swimmers reach the age of 14 they are encouraged to apply to work as a helper and to train towards and gain the ASA Helper certificate. Service of this nature is recognised by other volunteering schemes such as Duke of Edinburgh
  • When swimmers reach the age of 16 they are encouraged to apply to work as a teacher and to train towards and gain the ASA Level 1 certificate and the RLSS National Pool Lifeguard Qualification
  • Swimmers and parents (minimum age 18) are encouraged to work as administrators or as pool side helpers and to train towards becoming qualified in their duties
  • The club has a scheme in place to assist its volunteers with the costs of gaining qualifications and continued professional development (details held by the treasurer). The club provides access to other sources of financial support for volunteer training through its participation in the Swim 21 accreditation process, the Active Surrey Sports Partnership and other local authority initiatives (details in the club Financial plan)
  • The committee regularly audits the skills of its members and volunteers. A Volunteer Task Force (sub group) was formed at the AGM in 2007 to identify barriers to recruitment/succession planning. The recommendations of the Task Force have shaped the forward agenda of committee in terms of succession planning
  • The club encourages and supports its teachers, coaches, volunteers and officials to develop through gaining paid or unpaid work experience in the wider community e.g. schools, swimming associations, leisure centres, private swim schools, inter club competitions
  • The club actively seeks and welcomes new members and volunteers by promoting its activities and opportunities through its website, partnerships and the local media
  • The importance of volunteer recruitment and support is recognised by the club through it being a specific and significant responsibility in the job description of the club secretary who leads the volunteer subgroup
  • The club nominates volunteers for community awards, as appropriate, and recognition is given through the annual club awards in the form of the perpetual Presidents Cup and vouchers to the value of £25
