Why a code of conduct?
A code allows everyone to be aware of what is expected of them as a member of the club.
If you follow the code you will maintain the reputation of the club as a friendly and
disciplined organisation where all swimmers can fulfil their potential and have fun in
a safe environment.
Behaviour
Treat all swimmers as you would like to be treated. Do not bully or take unfair advantage of any swimmer.
In water and on poolside
Listen to and obey all instructions from the coaches. In particular, you must not enter
the water until your coach starts the session. If asked to leave the water, you must do
so immediately. Swim each set continuously, do not stop, stand, walk, talk or otherwise
disrupt the lane in which you are swimming. You must inform your coach if you wish to
visit the changing rooms during a session. Your safety and that of all swimmers comes
before all other considerations.
Equipment
Treat the pool and equipment with respect. Do not linger in the changing rooms, you should
shower and change as quickly as possible. Flush the toilet after use. Do not remove toilet
rolls from the holders. Take care of your personal property and respect the property of
other swimmers.
Competitions and Galas
Always show appreciation of good swimming by ALL swimmers.
Swim to the rules of the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA).
Control your emotions - do not use abusive language or act in an aggressive manner.
Obey promptly all instructions of the team manager.
If travelling by transport provided by the club remain seated throughout the journey,
wear the seat belt provided and comply with all the driver's instructions.
Courtesy to coaches, teachers and other volunteers
Please remember that our coaches, teachers and volunteers give up their own personal time
to help you fulfil your swimming goals. Their only reward is to see you and the club succeed.
Please respect them by attending regularly and being attentive at every session.
Parents and Friends
Swim for fun - not just to please your parents or to keep up with your friends.
Set yourself realistic goals in discussion with your coach.
If asked to swim in a gala, it is an honour - make sure you put your club first.
Sanctions
Any swimmer breaking these rules will receive a formal verbal warning from the coach or
team manager at the time. Failing to heed a warning may result in exclusion from training
for some or all of a session (or a gala). Persistent offenders will receive a written
warning from the committee.
