Wey Valley Time Trials are run regularly to:
- Introduce swimmers in the "Teaching" section of the club to the competitive environment in a fun way.
- Update times for swimmers in the "Competitive" section of the club to see personal progression.
- Update Personal Bests to assist coaches to pick gala teams.
- Allow swimmers to assess personal progress agaisnt the ASA Competitive Swimming Performance Awards
and to obtain badges.
As these trials are usualy run during normal session times at Godalming, swimmers who usually swim at this time
will have priority over other swimmers for these events as it is their lane training time which is being
disrupted (i.e. there will be no lane training on these dates at these times). Your teacher or coach
will let you know if you should enter. Swimmers need to arrive at 15 mins before the published start time so they are changed
and ready to swim.
To ensure fairness the trials must be swum under ASA law for a swimmer to gain a Personal Best which will then be recorded
in the Personal Bests section of the web site. This
means that at trials swum under ASA law some swimmers, who are still mastering the strokes or make mistakes, will be disqualified.
For a detailed explanation of disqualification terms go to the Frequently Asked Questions section of the Club
To keep Time Trials fun without the pressure of disqualifications, the strokes for the Teaching swimmers are usually not judged against ASA law
and therefore the times are not marked as Personal Bests but are just recorded as the time swum. Similarly, trials done during training sessions
are usually not eligible for Personal Bests
Time Trials are held in addition to the Club Championships which are more formal and the forum for Squad swimmers
to obtain ASA licenced times needed for entry to country level events. Due to the ASA licence, Club Championships
must fully conform to ASA law and therefore the times from Club Championship events are always eligible for Personal Bests and Club Records.
Details of future events will be advertised in the Event Schedule.
